There have been some interesting questions going around a board recently about the advantages of self-hosting a business blog as part of regular website vs using the free WordPress.com blogging service.
I would love to add my two-cents to this discussion, so here goes:
Pros of Self Hosting:
- Complete control over the design of your blog – WordPress.com offers limited number of design themes to choose from
- No limits on file space – WordPress.com will charge for extra files space
- Unlimited use of plugins – only a limited number of plugins are available for upload
- Unlimited use of widgets
- You can place outside or inside advertising to monetize your blog and collect the revenue – WordPress.com will place advertising in your blog and the revenue will go to them, afterall, that’s how they have to make a buck!
- Added search value to your site – You can install the proper SEO plugins to help get your blog site on the internet map
- Added content to your site – when connected to your regular website, an added blog will increase visibility by adding fresh content on a regular basis
- Domain Name – WordPress.com will charge you an annual fee for adding your domain name. If you self host, well you know…
