I just had an interesting email from a client in New Zealand.  He is running an affliate website called www.weddingspeechesfreestuff.com  and needed some help in generating new sales.  Here’s what I did for him…

  1. Complete review of his exisiting website
  2. Recommendations for improving his website

After the review and recommendations, he was pleased with my offer and asked me to start implementing the changes.  Here’s what we did…

The website was in need of a new look to mirror the products that are being sold.  In this case, Allan is promoting Wedding Speeches.  It’s a great niche and he did some research to discover it.  Not everyone is a writer and when it comes to making wedding speeches, this can be quite intimidating.  So, I came up with a light, romantic design to help sell the wedding pitch.

Next, we had to clean up the grammatical errors on the site.  Long gone are the days when we used to write in different colors to emphasize different areas of our websites.  Remember the early 90s?  Sites back then were basic, written in HTML code and didn’t have a lot dynamically going on.  If you had a personal website, one of the flashier things you could demonstrate was your ability to show off in color.  One paragraph could be green, one purple, words in red, etc.  You get the picture.  Websites today are much more sophisticated and visitors demand a professional experience when reaching one.  Especially if you’re selling a product.

You need to demonstrate that you are a trusted professional when selling online.  Your text should be error free and grammatically correct.  What can you do to help?  WordPress has such a plugin that will proofread your copy for you and give you suggestions for grammar and spelling.  It takes just a few extra minutes to run the proofreader.  It’s well worth it in the end result.  Your site will look polished and professional.

Now that we have all the formatting and text taken care of, onward to the affiliate ads.

Allan was putting all his eggs in one basket.  He was banking on the success of Wedding Speeches and the one product he found to promote it.  When you are running an affiliate website, it’s important not to do this.  Yes, you found a great niche.  But there is a lot more you can do to bring in the traffic and the sales.

Find similar products that complement your niche keyword.  For example, Allan talks bout other wedding related items in his website and gives some good advise.  I suggested that he start promoting other products like wedding invitations and wedding planning to help generate sales.  Another thing is to get involved with a couple of other affiliate networks that can help you with products.  Clickbank, Commission Junction, and Google Affiliates are just a few of the big names in affiliate networks out there.  Sign up for an affiliate account and put the ads and banners to work for you.  Place banners and text links into corresponding blog posts.  Writing about honeymoons, for example?  Place a link for Priceline.com or Travelocity to help find the perfect travel package.

Next, sign up for a Google Adsense account.  This is also free and will help generate traffic and sales for your site.  Go to Google.com/adsense to create a new account and follow the simple instructions.  Adsense will give you the tools your need to place advertising in your website and there are a number of WordPress plugins to help you with this, as well.  As long as you don’t click on the ads yourself, you won’t terminate the contract and will be making money in no time.
