ok.  We’ve covered what you’re new website should look like and how easy it can be to manage.  Now it’s time to get into content.  First thing you should think of are your main pages.  These are the pages that are critical to your business, thing that your potential customers want to know about you and your company.

You should have a minimum of 4 pages to your website:

Home page:

Your Home page is what is commonly referred to as the landing page.  This is the page that your visitors will come to when you give them your website address.  It should be the most descriptive of all the pages on your website and share the most up-to-date information on your business.  Afterall, your site is there to market for you 24/7 and is the first impression people see.  You should be able to help visitors find what they’re looking for – give them a link to a prouct page, or how they can contact you for more information.  Don’t frustrate them by making them search all over your site for the information.

About Us page:

Show off your knowledge in your area of expertise!  Include a bio or list of references or testimonials.  Your photo will help in personalizing your site so your customers will have a ‘face’ to match the name or voice they hear when they call.

Contact Us page:

Probably one of the most important.  You’ve captured the attention of your potential customer, now give them the information they need to contact you.  There are many forms that you can use on your site to avoid spam-bots.  I always recommend something that uses RECAPTCHA – the funny little box with the symbols that you need to fill out to prove that you are a human being.

Blog page:

Again, very important.  Blogging keeps your site’s content fresh and provides a continuing source of education to your customers in your field of expertise.  Blogs do not have to be long.  They can be a paragraph of content highlighting the latest news in your field or something that excites you enough to want to share the information with your visitors.  If you have alot to say, like I do in this post, break it up into a series.  That way you can keep it brief enough for the casual reader and encourage them to come back for more!  Encourage commenting to invite your readers to respond and share their opinions.  That personal connection can be a great way to better answer customer questions, get ideas nd feedback for improvement, and ultimately lead to more sales.

If you are looking for a customized, easy to manage website that incorporates all of this, or if you just need a blog to compliment your existing website, contact me.  I would love to talk to you and find out how I can help you get started.

Your comments are greatly appreciated!
